I'm alive!

I just noticed the date for my last blog and realized it's been well over a month since I last posted ANYTHING. I guess the good news about that is that I've been busy - working in lab, dealing with my crazy dogs, and getting used to living in Indiana once again.

Did I mention I've been knitting a lot?? So far, I've knit 2 hats and a sock for my sister.

Anyway, I went out of town last weekend. My good friend Steven was graduating from chiropractic school with a Dr's in chiropractic... and he's only 25!!!! I feel so old sometimes, I used to tutor Steven in chemistry when I was at UTPB... Anyway, it was a lot of fun to see him along with several people from Odessa.
I left Friday afternoon for DFW from South Bend. It was nice not having to drive all the way to Chicago, but I still wonder if it would have been better. My flight was delayed a little bit, but no big deal. We reached Atlanta on time and I got to my gate (with dinner) with minutes to spare. They boarded the flight late, and then we sat on the plane for 30 min. I was so exhausted from the day that I managed to fall asleep AND wake up before we'd taken off! Well, they finally make an announcement that they are "attaching" something and that we'd be taking off shortly! To make things worse, we finally start to head to the runway and there are 15 planes waiting to leave as well. Actually, it was kind of neat to see 15 planes in line back to back. We head to DFW but storms in the area force us to reroute through Shreveport. We'll already running late and then the captain tells us that we've been told to hold back and not land for another 40 min. I was supposed to land at 8:20 pm, but by the time we get off the plane it's already 10 pm. Hhhmm, maybe it wasn't Delta's fault, but I've been told by tooo many people that they are awful.

You know, I lived in San Antonio for a year and a half and managed not to get lost. They've done a wonderful job of setting it up so that if you take the wrong road, you take the next exit, do a turnaround and you're back on track. Dallas is another story. I think I managed to get lost 4 or 5 or 100 times. It doesn't help that I don't know the area, but simple directions get messed up just by the fact that roads split every so often and your only indication is a sign, the size of my hand telling you where to go. I tried meeting everyone for dinner (I was at Ikea) and Steven says, "Take 121 to 35 and in 15 min you'll be here." Great, sounds easy enough. I could have sworn he said 121 N, so I do, and about 20 minutes later I'm headed towards Bonham, TX. I turn around and this time head SOUTH. Of course, it's not that easy. I come to a fork in the road (going about 75 mph) and realize that they both say 121 S. Do I want 121 S, or 121 S?? Hhhm, I opt for 121 S and keep going. Turns out they meant 121 S or 121 S BUSINESS. Great. Which one do you think I took? 121 S business. Ugh. The good news is we finally made it. The bad news is everyone was gone. :( It's okay. We ended up meeting to play laser tag nearby.

Did I mention I was not half bad at laser tag? I've never liked playing, I'm such a chicken it bothers me to get tagged and I just feel incompetent. The aggravations of the day seemed to help and I actually beat out some people. There was a little girl who kept trying to shoot me (little as in 15) , she'd get close and start shooting and shooting, but poor thing, she was a terrible shot. I'd wait, and then shoot her a few times and she'd take off. My friend Giselle managed to get another girl negative points!

All in all, I had a lot of fun. I don't get to hang out with Steven too often and he's moving to San Diego soon, so this was really nice. :)
